About Me:
With 20-plus years experience in the building industry, I've freelanced as an architectural designer and provided technical support for medium to large-scale projects, including corporate facilities, sports and entertainment, healthcare, and multi-family residential project types. Most recently, I provided interior design and construction documentation services as a member of the project team for the largest building project in the U.S. to date.

Additionally, I have developed strategies for business development and marketing for small to medium-sized design firms. I love the creative part of architecture, but I've discovered that I also enjoy the business side of the building industry, including marketing, business development, and strategic planning. Encouraging people to do their best and fulfill their dreams is my passion. That’s why I've taken on the role as marketing manager, publicist, and business coach to the building industry, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses who typically do not have these services in-house.

I earned my undergraduate degree in Architecture from the University of Michigan, and have taken courses toward a Master of Business Administration with a concentration marketing from Wayne State University. I'm also a managing partner with the construction and facilities consulting firm, KARMIS, LLC, a college instructor and author.

The news is reporting it, and if you do a little research, you will find signs: the economy seems to be in an upturn, albeit ever so subtly. 5 Keys to Selling Your Services

Posted on March 16, 2009 at 8:08pm 0 Comments

Here’s some insight to an online building industry video I viewed recently. Builder magazine editorial director, Boyce Thompson, interviewed William Kraeger, principal at Mithun, on how the architecture firm sells its clients on sustainable design.

This interview was only two minutes and 40 seconds, but it spoke volumes about marketing professional services, whether green building or some other market niche. Here are five key points from the brief segment:

1. Study the… Continue

Okay, I admit it. Although I am typically quite optimistic, some days, this economy can really get me down. The building industry has taken a big hit in this recession we’re in. But, we know with time, this season of crisis will pass.

So if projects in your office have slowed or if you’ve been laid-off, continue to work toward your goals, develop and review your personal and professional marketing objectives, and stay in top shape – physically, mentally… Continue

A recent study showed that nine out of every ten blacks (91 percent) who live to 75 years of age will have experienced poverty for at least one year during their lifetime, compared with only 50% of whites. Many of the children living in poverty in America are the children of African-American families headed by single females.
