Challenges of a WAHM

Many of us on this board are mothers who work out of our homes, which presents special challenges. This subject has been weighing on my mind this week, so I decided to write about it.

I am a full time mom, and I am certainly blessed to be one. I used to be a teacher and a staff trainer in mathematics, so to finally stop taking care of other people's children and focus totally on my own was truly a relief!! Although some teachers do it, I can't imagine dealing with 20 children every… Continue

It's not who you know, but who knows you

As entrepreneurs, it is important that we find ways to get people talking about what we do. It could be the best product or service in the world, but if no one knows about it, the business won't grow.

As I continue to network throughout NYC, I am reminded of that. I attended a networking event last night, and made a lot of good connections. Now I have to make sure I stay in the minds of these people. So I will spend tomorrow following up with them. After all, it's about who knows me.… Continue

The Business of Y-O-U: It's Not Just About What You Sell

During a consultation this morning, my client who sells bath and body products told me that she did not want to include her photo at her website. She said she had spoken with numerous African American woman business owners who said she should omit her photo from her website because it would hurt sales.

Based on my experience working with thousand of businesses, and my own for a decade, I feel strongly that anyone with an online business must include their photo at their website. Not… Continue

New Clients!

Tonight I had my first meeting with new clients. They are also the first clients of my new venture of marriage education/preparations/enhancement. The Marriage Academy has students! I had so much fun working with them and giving them my plan for making their future marriage a proactive marriage. They were excited about it, listened to my every word, felt comfortable sharing and THANKED ME as they were leaving. That 'thank you' meant a lot. It exhibited trust in my skills and that they like me.… Continue

Creating a Buzz - for free

Please let me preface this post with the fact that my business is only two years old. I've made a lot of mistakes, but in doing so have learned a lot about what to do, and most importantly, what NOT to do.

What I'm about to tell you will take a lot of work time at the computer, but will pay off with a slow stead climb up the ranks of the Google search engine. Right now, my site www.neosoulessentials.com is number 12 on google for the… Continue

Are You Tweeting?

Hi Ladies,

I know it's a holiday, but hubby took the kids to the pool (I'm sure they are freezing right about now) and so I had a few minutes. I've been wondering if any of you know about Twitter. If you don't, here's a Twitter tutorial.

Twitter is at http://www.twitter.com

Twitter is sort of like blogging for dummies. Once you register for your free Twitter account, you are assigned a page of your own, where you can "Tweet" about whatever you want. That's as… Continue

Turning Pure Romance into a Full-time Business...

I'm glad LaShanda asked this question after my last blog. Now, I can only speak to the Pure Romance (PR)approach to growing your business:

For those who want instant gratification, the way to make money would be to focus strickly on doing parties and selling via the website. However, this is not a good idea if you plan on growing your business into a full-time career. I have had parties that totaled over $1400 BUT I have also had parties that… Continue

I'm Official! Now what?

As I commented on fellow BBWO, Cee Cee's blog, I became "official" yesterday, meaning my business in incorporated. And the next step, with the help of a few professionals is to build corporate credit and use less of my own money to fund my business. I'm excited about it. I envision Noja, Inc. will one day become an umbrella corporation for my premarital counseling and marriage consulting business, my… Continue

Collaborate Or Die!

Partnering: Your Recipe For Success

I've always been a social butterfly. I love meeting new people, and when I connect with someone with whom I have a lot in common, I can chat them up for hours.

The other day, my Pastor (with whom I have also been friends for 20 years so we chat quite a bit) forwarded me an email message from someone he thought I'd love to meet. He knows me so well .... Two days later, yesterday, my husband and I were sitting across a lunch table from a… Continue

Let's get Started!

Ok Ladies, I figured I would start with how I got started in this business:

In January of 2007 a friend of mine from High School approached me with the idea of starting my own Pure Romance business, at the time I was working full-time as a Program Manager for a National Non-Profit organization and while I loved the work, the woman I worked from was making my daily life miserable and I needed something else.

This friend,… Continue

So you want to start or are starting up a business?

Every business begins with an idea and a goal. Sometimes the goal is to make money, to help others, or a desire to share one’s knowledge or creations. In any event, many people start businesses for different reasons. Statistics from the US business administration show that in 2006, 649,700 small businesses opened and 564,900 closed. From this statistic alone, it seems that many small businesses do not survive for the long haul.

Unfortunately, I witnessed this statistic first hand… Continue

The Business of Being a Mother

Being a mother is no easy task - it's filled with challenges. As I reflect on this position that I have held for the past 22 years I realize that I have every right to run for the president of the United States of America if not the world.

Culinary Expert

I have fed the kids when they have declared there is nothing there to eat -miraculously I managed to whip up meals without leaving the house.

Office of Administration

Time management - scheduling various… Continue
